CONCEPT

The Festival concept is focused on the person of Leonardo Da Vinci, principally in the choice of venues, where Leonardo’s father, Ser Piero – a notary in Florence – and Leonardo himself worked.

Florence – cradle of the Renaissance, renowned throughout the world as a UNESCO World Heritage city, with its immeasurable heritage of history, architecture and art – forms the stunning backdrop to this remarkable Festival.

Florentine bass-baritone who has sung around the world, Choral Conductor, International Jury member, founder of International Festivals and Opera Concert Seasons, with vast experience in the Organization of Choral Events, has brought more than 10.000 people to Florence to perform in his Festivals.

ENROLLMENT FEE

The Festival enrollment fee for each Choir is 200 euros for the first category and 150 euros for every additional category, non refundable.

The fee must be paid within 5 days after the application by bank transfer.

After submission, we will send you our bank account details for payment.

All groups participating in the Festival will perform in two stages:

The Festival will include Live broadcasting from staff, organizers and performers from Florence, Italy.

– Meet the Jury, results announcement, presentation of specially recorded concerts. Masterclasses, Awarding Ceremony

– Grand Prix Competition for the finalist choirs. A numerous and highly qualified International Jury will be announced shortly.

The videos must have been filmed recently (2017-2021), live at concerts or rehearsals. The video must be owned by the choir itself and recorded without the aid of audio post-production.

Videos must be recorded in hi-res (1080p) in stereo.

The video files must be sent to our organization by WeTransfer (preferred) at: chairman@florencechoral.com or uploaded using Google Drive or Baidu Cloud.

Is allowed any kind of accompaniment, by piano, any type of instrument, orchestra.

It is necessary to send scores of the Competition pieces (both Category Competition and Grand Prix Competition) in pdf format, by email at: chairman@florencechoral.com

 

PARTICIPANTS

LEONARDO DA VINCI INTERNATIONAL CHORAL FESTIVAL is open to all genres of choral singing, even with instrumental presence, according to the rules and categories expressed in the following section.

IMPLEMENTATION PROCEDURES

Each choral group may subscribe to one or more categories, following a request for participation by completing an application form.

CATEGORIES

A – Mixed Choirs Adults

B – Equal Voices Choirs Adults

C – Youth and University Choirs

D – Children Choirs

E – Chamber Choirs, Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles

F – Sacred Music

G – Popular, Folk, Gospel, Barbershop, Jazz and Modern Ensembles

H – Early Music

M – Modern and Contemporary Music

V – Virtual Choirs

Each choir will participate with one piece for category. The total performance time must be between 3 and 9 minutes

CHORAL GRAND PRIX

The choirs that achieve 80,01 points or higher, will be admitted at the Grand Prix Competition.

During the Grand Prix the Choirs will perform two pieces of free chosen repertoire lasting between 7 and 10 minutes of pure singing time The pieces must be different from the one performed in the categories.

The decisions of the Jury are final.

The Jury, after consideration of all artistic matters, may not award some prizes or may award joint or additional prizes.

– one work of Sacred Music of the choir’s own choice

Category G

– one work of Popular, Folk, Gospel, Barbershop, Jazz and Modern

of the choir’s own choice

Category H

– one work of Early Music (1100-1700) of the choir’s own choice

Category M

– one work of Modern and Contemporary Music of the choir’s own choice

Category V

– one work of the choir’s own choice

In each category the Jury will assign the following prizes:

1st place: 400 Euros, Gold Medal, Diploma

2nd place: Silver Medal, Diploma

3rd place: Bronze Medal, Diploma

Grand Prix for the Best Choir of the Festival: 1.500 Euros and “La Battaglia di Anghiari” by Leonardo Da Vinci (faithful reproduction expressly made by a notable Florentine artist for the Festival)

Best Female Soloist: Trophy and Diploma

Best Performance of Italian Composer’s Work: Trophy and Diploma

Best Performance of Contemporary Composer’s Work: Trophy and Diploma

ADJUDICATING CRITERIA

Performances will be judged by the international jury whose members include conductors, opera singers and composers.

Choirs will be judged according to the following criteria:

– Intonation

– Vocal Emission

– Interpretation

– Dynamics

– Repertoire

– Text Clarity and Articulation

– Overall Artistic Effect

According to the mark achieved, Bronze, Silver and Gold Diplomas will be awarded. If the choir does not achieve a Diploma (mark under 65,01) it will receive a certificate of participation. Each member of the Jury will write a report containing reviews and impressions about the performed repertoire of the choirs. The reports will be sent to the choirs by email.
