Florence Choral, International Music Festivals in Florence, Italy, is happy to announce the 1st Leonardo Da Vinci International Choral Composition Competition.

The aim of this new initiative is to allow composers of all ages and from all over the world to challenge their creativity.

Since its foundation, Florence Choral has always been sensitive to young and affirmed composers. Their works give us great emotions and is a great pleasure to listen them performed by always different choirs in every of our prestigious Festivals in Florence.

Participation is open to composers of any nationality and any age.

RULES

 

Category A- Mixed Choirs

from 4 parts (SATB) to 8 parts a cappella or with piano accompaniment

Category B- Children Choirs

SA or SAA a cappella or with piano accompaniment

 

Pieces must have an approximate duration from 2 to 7 minutes.duration from 2 to 7 minutes.

Text can be in any language, is recommended to send also an English translation of the text.

Pieces has to be in pdf format only.

Is highly recommended to send also the MP3 audio file extracted from the score, when submitting the work.

Name of composer cannot appear anywhere on the score.

 

AWARDS

Category A – Mixed Choirs (Youth and Adults)

1st Place

The composer will receive a prize of 1.000 euros and diploma

2nd Place

The composer will receive a prize of 600 euros and diploma.

3rd Place

The composer will receive a prize of 400 euros and diploma

 

Category B – Children Choirs

1st Place

The composer will receive a prize of 1.000 euros and diploma

2nd Place

The composer will receive a prize of 600 euros and diploma.

3rd Place

The composer will receive a prize of 400 euros and diploma

The Awarding Ceremony will take place during the 5th Leonardo Da Vinci International Choral Festival, 11th – 14th July 2023 in Florence, Italy,

Our Organization will provide accommodation and board to the 3 finalists of the Competition.

 

Special Competition for the composition of Leonardo Da Vinci International Choral Festival Official Anthem

In the context of this Composition Competition, is established the call for the composition of the Official Anthem of the Leonardo Da Vinci International Choral Festival, which will be performed every year during the Final Concert of the Festival by part or all participating choirs joint together, conducted every time by a renowned Conductor.

The piece must have an approximate duration from 3 to 5 minutes on text by Leonardo Da Vinci.

From 4 parts (SATB) to 8 parts, a cappella or with piano accompaniment.

Pieces has to be in pdf format only.

Is highly recommended to send also the MP3 audio file extracted from the score, when submitting the work.

Name of composer cannot appear anywhere on the score.

The winner of this Special Competition will receive a prize of 1.000 euros.

The Awarding Ceremony will take place during the 5th Leonardo Da Vinci International Choral Festival, 11th – 14th July 2023 in Florence, Italy,

Our Organization will provide accommodation and board to the winner of the Competition.

 

APPLICATION DEADLINES

All entries must be sent by 31st October 2022

All entries for the Special Competition for the composition of Leonardo Da Vinci International Choral Festival Official Anthem must be sent by 31st December 2022

Participation will be finalized by filling the web entry form (www.florencechoral.com/application-composition-competition/) , submitting the composed work and paying the participation fee.

FEE

Entry fee is 40 euros per composition. For each Composer is possible to submit more than one composition for every category.

TIMING

Regarding the general Composition Competition. the Jury will deliberate within December 2022, for the specific Composition Competition to select the Official Anthem of Leonardo Da Vinci International Choral Festival, the Jury will deliberate within January 2023.

The results will be published on website (www.florencechoral.com) and on Facebook (www.facebook.com/florencechoralfestivals) and Instagram (www.instagram.com/florence.choral)  accounts of Florence Choral. willThe award winners will receive also a notification via e-mail.

 

ACCESSORY BENEFITS

The finalists of the general Composition Competition and of the specific Composition Competition to select the Official Anthem of Leonardo Da Vinci International Choral Festival will be stably inserted in the Florence Choral website at the “Renowned Composers” (www.florencechoral.com/composers-corner/renowned-composers/) and “Emerging Composers” (www.florencechoral.com/composers-corner/emerging-composers/) sections, with the possibility for them to be chosen and performed by international choirs as obligatory piece in cat. M – Modern and Contemporary Music in all the 5 Festivals organised annually by Florence Choral.

Possibility of publication of winning compositions with relevant publishing companies.

Professional video and audio recording of winning compositions will be made in live performances during our Festivals and uploaded on our YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UCJPbqo-uoYmdLoSgygYQtOQ

 

NOTES

The submitted work has to be not published before, from the time of submission until the announcement of the results. However, it is allowed that the piece may have been performed before.

A participant can apply as many works as wanted. One entry form for each work must be filled.

Participation in the competition implies full knowledge and acceptance of these regulations.

The jury’s decisions are final.
